ShopRite Stores Support Local Veterans with In-Store Events
Fundraising and Food Donations highlight Veteran’s Campaign
Florida, NY (July 1, 2010) – As we head into the July 4th weekend with fireworks and family barbeques, ShopRite wants to remind us all that as we celebrate our country’s independence, we should remember the soldiers and veterans who fought to achieve it for us.
ShopRite continues its dedication to supporting local veterans by sponsoring a number of events throughout the month of July to benefit three local Veteran’s organizations: the Committee for The Families of Iraqi War Veterans (www.familiesofwarvets.org), The Tower of Hope (www.thetowerofhope.org) and The Orange County Veterans Food Pantry (www.orangecountygov.com).
Kicking off the month-long tribute to Veterans, ShopRite is sponsoring the City of Middletown’s Stars and Stripes Weekend and hosting a food drive. Donations of non-perishable items can be made at various stations during the town’s celebration, as well as at Middletown’s City Hall. All ShopRite locations in Orange County will be collecting food and financial donations for all Veterans’ organizations as well.
In addition, each ShopRite store will be hosting events to raise additional funds, including car washes, hot dog sales, raffles and giveaways. Customers can also contribute by adding a financial donation to their shopping order at checkout. Additionally, ShopRite has partnered with vendors to offer special promotional products during the month of July that when purchased, a portion of proceeds will also go to these organizations. Product will be designated through special signage in each ShopRite.
“Our local veterans gave so much while fighting for our freedom overseas,” said Tom Urtz, Senior Director of Human Resources and Consumer Affairs for ShopRite. “ShopRite wants to ensure that those men and women have what they need here at home in the Hudson Valley. That’s why ShopRite established our Veteran’s Campaign and why we continue to support organizations that serve our heroes.”
Supporting Veterans in its local community is something ShopRite has been dedicated to for many years. The ShopRite of Montgomery (99 Hawkins Drive) donated more than $10,000 and 2,000 square feet of store space to the Orange County Veterans Food Pantry in February. This location provides the food pantry with a strategic position within Orange County to support its ever-growing Veterans population. Providing the Veterans Food Pantry with this high-profile location reinforces ShopRite’s dedication to and long-standing partnership with Orange County and the local community.
